During a recent wandering in one of the many woods around me i found this wonderful small creek which, even though small, had a nice flow to it thanks to some recent rain. As i sat down to record the soothing sound of the riffles, a group of chickadees decided to come check me out. Enjoy.

Midwestern forests can be quite noisy during the early spring when the various neo-tropical migrants invade the woods to get fat of insects and to raise a family. In this recording, made on the bank of a small creek situated in a ravine, you will hear various birds including, northern parula, louisiana waterthrush, an eastern phoebe, a carolina wren and an american robin. Recording made with my handy zoom h4n recorder propped up about 3 feet from the forest floor on a tripod and using the unit's internal, stereo microphones. Enjoy.

Using an or/gate-combiner to create a trigger-ish for quadra to react on. Analog delay and spring reverb. Why did i do this patch from the very beginning? when the voltage on x from sloth reaches a specific value a trigger is generated and i sample the value on y and uses to select pitch on an oscillator. The one playing the long tones. Chaos creates my variations. Sh1t, now when i've stopped recording cool thing are happening. Promise. . .

The soundscape at the bottom of the dried moat of arundel castle in late spring. There's a strong breeze running through the trees, crows calling, an aeroplane, a couple of flies buzz past. I was laying in the sunshine about 10 meters away, falling asleep :). Sound devices mixpre3 and rode svmx, bit of low cut applied (60hz, 12db/oct) and a small amount of higher frequency boost to compensate for the wind cut i had fitted.

Nature, and man-made machines, wake up on a saturday in a small town in southern illinois. Even though getting "away from it all" and experiencing nature in the deep woods, or a quiet field is very enjoyable, let's not forget that nature often lives and thrives side-by-side with us. I recorded this in my back yard on saturday april 27th, 2013 at 6:45 am and you'll hear the low, but everpresent low rumble of a distant train throughout. But, over and above you hear the incredible variety of calls and sounds made by a family of starlings who seem oblivious to the iron horse and the occasional car. We had rain the night before, so every now and then you hear a loud "plop" as a breeze cuts loose fat rain-drop and it hits the foam wind-screen on my h4n. Starting at around 3:47 and running to 4:08 a cardinal makes a strong appearance. The first sunday of may is the international dawn chorus day! on the 3rd of may 2020, artists and field recordists in different parts of the world recorded the birdsong around the time of the local sunrise, and then the sounds were put together in a synchronous collage. A field-recording taken at a local animal park (germany). It was an early morning in spring and there were hardly any people there yet. The area, where we sat down, was surrounded by trees. Numerous birds were chirping and crows were cawing. A few farm animals like sheep can be heard in the recording at times as well as a one of the caretakers starting a vehicle in the distance.

This is a larger stream in the shawnee national forest. At this particular point on the stream had a large log over which the water was flowing gently. . . . Not as much gurgling and popping sounds, just a nice smooth, flowing sound.

This is the song of a beautiful bird called a rufous-sided towhee. A bird usually found in deep woods, or in heavy brush. I was fortunate though to both see and hear this guy as he was perched in a tree at the edge of a heavy forest. Recorded around 6:30 in the morning on a gorgeous spring day on the last day of march 2012. Rode ntg-2 shotgun mic mounted on a sturdy tripod to reduce handling noise. Enjoy!.

A slinky spring toy stretched out and plucked once from the end, recorded with a zeppelin design labs cortado impedance-matched piezo contact microphone. The resulting recording is a classic spring-based sci-fi "laser sound" with a massive, lengthy, rumbling decay tail. This was recorded at 24 bit 96 khz. In addition to its use as a sound effect, this waveform works well inside a convolution reverb as an offbeat spring reverb impulse response, provided one has the processor power and ram to support a 2 minute 13 second convolution. The cortado's bass response is exceptionally large for a contact mic, so high pass filtering may be desired if used as an impulse response.
